A wedding is to be celebrated
In the spring of 2023, my husband and I were invited to a wedding in England. A year earlier, the son of one of my oldest friends had proposed to his girlfriend, and when the invitation arrived, there was no doubt; of course, as proud ”guncles”, we would participate in the festivities. Expectations were high – about a hundred people from near and far had been honored to attend the big day. And a British wedding at that, with all that would entail in terms of hat creations, thoughtful speeches and the unmistakable humor as a common thread! We were so excited!
Over the years, I have attended a number of weddings as a guest. Whether it is your own or a friend’s, there is something very special that happens on a wedding day. The collective joy (which was often manifested in spontaneous outbursts of tears of joy among both the closest relatives and friends), surrounded by smiling faces and the common realization that we were all participating in one of the most beautiful things there is – the celebration of people we all love – permeated every moment from morning to late evening.
Sometimes the realization that a brief moment will be fondly remembered does not occur until long afterwards. This day was characterized by a feeling that everyone present was aware from the first moment that we were all, together, involved in creating the most beautiful of memories.
